The Garden Route

The Garden Route includes one of South Africa's most beautiful stretches of coastline, the starting point of which is constantly contested as towns such as Witsand, Stilbaai and Albertinia join the route that winds its way for some 200 km via George, Wilderness, Sedgefield and Knysna on to Plettenberg Bay culminating in the Tstisikamma Forest.

We were staying in a place called Hog Hollow lodge - and it was beautiful. Our view from the stoop of our lodge was amazing. We had monkeys trying to steal muffin's at the breakfast buffet, and a great hike over to the Monkey sanctuary (pics to come...)

went along to Plettenberg Bay - where we used to go as children. we used to stay at the Beacon Island Hotel - so had to visit there. Still a nice looking hotel - and the beaches on either side were amazing.

Then we went off to Oudtshoorn. The Ostrich farm was cool... got to see someone ride one.. and got a neck massage from a bunch of them. Met Bessie - the oldest resident at the farm, then ate one of her siblings for lunch - very strange.

Cango caves - not been there for thirty something years... Still an amazing place. But they have got rid of the coloured lights (tho they turned them on - so there are some colored pictures). The amazing thing, not captured in the photos.... you are driving along, towards the caves - and all of a sudden the road ends. You go from main road to inside the caves car park without even noticing it.

More to come....
